Abstract:
Children getting trapped in closed cars and suffering from heat strokes is an issue that has been encountered for decades. Indeed, children left or forgotten in cars that slowly start to heat up can cause conditions that would seriously endanger their life. This issue has been studied and solutions were made, however, a solution that completely considers all the aspects is yet to be achieved. This work aims to prevent human deaths due to in-vehicle heatstroke by creating an autonomous monitoring and alerting system that would notify both vehicle owner and emergency contact about any passenger, particularly children, left unattended. To detect movement inside the vehicle, an infrared motion sensor along with image processing will be used. For the status of the car, an accelerometer will report the displacement of the car at specific intervals. The proposed system completely relies on the Raspberry Pi microcontroller which interfaces all system sensors and induces all actions needed to help the passenger.
