5 Neuron Stimulation

So far we've been able to see and hear the electricity produced by neurons. Information is encoded in electrical spikes sent quickly down to the end of the axon. We have been able to "read" from the neurons using small metal electrodes; might it also be possible to "write" to them as well? Could we reverse the electrode and send electricity into a neuron?
