Abstract:
The paper aims to present the procedure applied to the monitoring and diagnosis of thermal stresses of electrical equipment by means of infrared technique. A case study is presented with an analysis of an event identified by infrared thermography. The warmer the body in question, the higher the energy emitted in the form of infrared radiation. Basically, infrared (IR) thermography also allows us to see what we cannot normally see with the naked eye. Infrared thermographic cameras allow viewing the thermal spectrum and identifying problems by quantifying them in a non-contact measurement and presenting the results obtained in the form of technical reports. If either faulty electrical equipment or unsuitable electrical charging conditions, or damaged metal or non-metallic components are encountered, they are usually due to abnormal temperature patterns that can be highlighted by infrared thermographic cameras. Monitoring and diagnosing the thermal stresses of electrical equipment by infrared thermography is one of the most common methods currently applied in transformer substations.
