Chapter Abstract:

Abstract Edge computing has been envisioned as an enabling technology to support data‐driven services and local IoT applications by pushing computing, storage, and networking resources from the cloud to the network edge. Edge computing does not replace cloud computing for remote data computation, storage, and processing but facilitates a new and scalable hierarchical architecture. Compared to cloud computing, an intelligence system enabled by edge computing can provide significant benefits, such as low communication latency and long‐term cost‐effectiveness. At the same time, secure edge intelligence plays a vital role in identifying any unauthorized access, malicious alteration, and destruction of critical networking systems. This chapter discusses the background of edge computing, as well as its advances in security, reliability, and survivability. Several key research articles are summarized to highlight the unique capabilities in edge computing. They are followed by the presentation of secure edge intelligence, which includes the background and motivation, module designs, such as data preprocessing, learning, and updating, and challenges when performing secure solutions, such as countermeasures against data poisoning attacks and model poisoning attacks. The objective of secure edge intelligence is for the future of collaborative cybersecurity platforms in the edge networks.
