Abstract:

A compact sized printed antenna with Jerusalem cross slot for S and C band radar applications is presented in this paper. The antenna bandwidth is increased with the implementation of Jerusalem slot and the antenna operates satisfactorily over the frequency band of 28 GHz. The antenna is design on an FR4 substrate with an optimized dimension of 38×44×1.6 mm3 with microstrip line feed. The antenna includes truncated edges at the top and exponential tapered line at the lower edges along with Jerusalem cross slot in the rectangular patch. The simulation results show that -10 dB impedance bandwidth is increased by 11 % when Jerusalem cross is added into the design. It is also established that the antenna has omnidirectional far field patterns in the whole band of frequencies. The average radiation efficiency of the antenna varies between 90-95 % in the desired band. The proposed design may be suitable for S and C band weather forecasting radar systems due to its compactness, simple geometry and wide bandwidth.
