Abstract:

in this work, the authors investigate the design of an innovative hybrid-parallel fixed-wing UAV(Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) with VTOL (Vertical Take-Off and Landing) capabilities. The aim of this design is to obtain a system that conjugates hovering and maneuverability of a rotary-wing system with higher speed, efficiency, and autonomy offered by fixed-wing solutions. Also, multiple redundancies of power and propulsion system assure optimal fault mitigation and a high level of reliability that is required to work in dangerous harsh conditions. This work is mainly focused on system design and on simulation models that helped authors to shape and optimize the whole system.
