Abstract:

In this manuscript, a meander-line slot together with an open slot based implantable antenna operating in 2.45 GHz ISM (Industrial, Scientific and Medical) band has been proposed. The proposed antenna is implanted into a human body equivalent phantom having dimensions of 100\ \text{mm}\times 100 \text{mm}\times 100\ \text{mm}. A 0.762 mm thick superstrate is placed on conducting patch of the antenna to protect human tissues from direct contact with metallic layer. Copper is used here to develop patch and ground parts – whereas, Arlon AD 430 is chosen as the material for substrate and superstrate in this proposed antenna. The overall area of the proposed antenna (including superstrate) is 130 mm2 with a volume of 207.22 mm3. Transient solver available in Computer Simulation Technology (CST) Microwave Studio 2017 has been utilized to simulate the designed antenna structure. This antenna is resonant at 2.43 GHz and radiates over 90 MHz bandwidth from 2.39 GHz to 2.48 GHz. The proposed antenna provides realized gain of −20.6 dBi in human body phantom at resonant frequency.
