Abstract:

The imminent implementation of the Electric Vehicle in cities and their decarbonization requirements creates the need of repowering the electric grid not only for EV charging, but also for the gradual replacement of traditional Aerothermal heating systems. Cities are not prepared to double or triple their future energy demand. Transformer Substations have been coexisting with the citizens since the origin of the electric grid; however, we should not have to live with their industrial aspect, noise and electromagnetic emissions, human health hazards, lack of security in maintenance and operation, etc. The typology is varied, aerial on pole, prefabricated concrete house, semi-underground and buried... All of them have their advantages and disadvantages, but the urban environment is becoming much more demanding with AGENDA 2030 taking care of its aesthetics and comfort, removing architectural barriers and of course reassuring citizens and workers welfare. All to make cities much more liveable by providing adequate and useful furniture while minimizing costs. The CeTur, due to its architectural construction in two superimposed structures, one underground and the other above ground level, dramatically reduces its occupation footprint on the track; it's multifunctional as it is capable of: housing MV and LV equipment, public/private communication equipment, EV charging equipment and static or dynamic advertising broadcast equipment through standardized 1200×1800 mm MUPI spaces or 70" LED monitors, allowing to have Return on Investment all in one. TWELCON begins to make its designs to hide urban technical equipment at the beginning of the year 2000, since then we have hundreds of units in operation for telecommunications and dozens with Transformer Substations in Spain and Portugal since 2008. We will focus this Paper on the INTERNAL/EXTERNAL DESIGN, past TESTS, SECURITY and our experience in ACCIDENTS ON THE OPERATION.
