Abstract:

A metaphor-less optimization algorithm RAO-1 is developed in this paper to determine the optimal location and size of capacitors of radial distribution systems to reduce the active power loss and improve voltage profile. Index vector method is used to identify the optimal location for the placement of capacitors. Index factor values are determined using the direct load flow method. RAO-1 is divinely applied and found to be very effective in Radial Distribution Systems for capacitor placement and compared with other existing algorithms like the Hybrid method, Heuristic approach, Bat algorithm(BA), and Particle swarm optimization(PSO). The RAO-1 method has been successfully executed on IEEE 33 and 69 bus radial distribution systems.
