Abstract:
We summarize the application of an adjoint-based adaptive mesh refinement strategy for surface integral equation (SIE) scattering problems. The approach enables targeting error in a user-defined functional and correcting the discretization accordingly. Moreover, the approach drives equilibration of the error contribution estimates, resulting in efficient and balanced meshes automatically. Finally, by leveraging an a priori error condition and the a posteriori adjoint-based error contribution estimates, the number of iterations required in the refinement process is not only drastically reduced, but consistent across chosen tolerances of the discretization error. We demonstrate the performance of the adaptive refinement strategy for enhancing the computation of scattered field quantities with p-refinement.
