Abstract:

This article aims to present a method for controlling electrical devices by means of speech recognition technology that can be used through smartphones. In order to make the system more efficient, it is designed to run on an Internet of Things or IoT base which providing an option to facilitate use for people with mobility impairment. Working system in this research has been divided into three parts; part 1) the low-power control circuit which serves to control and monitor the operating status of the electrical devices, part 2) the Message Queue Telemetry Transport (MQTT) server of IoT on signal and message transport protocol and message queuing, and part 3) smart mobile applications or smartphones which accept voice commands by using speech recognition or speech-to-text methods to control the device part 1) through MQTT server of IoT in part 2), where these 3 parts will work together interactively. The results of the speech control experiment showed transcription accuracy by type of on and off commands was 99.36 percent of office environments and quiet streets and 98.00 percent of busy and chaotic traffic environments. Also, it showed 98.21 percent of people with mobility impairment can actually use it.
