Abstract:
The Electrical Vehicles (EVs) are gaining much pop-ularity in these days because of their environmental friendliness and efficiency compared to conventional vehicles. The EV mainly consists of an Electric motor, controller and battery. Among the electric motors used for EV application BLDC Motor is the most suitable candidate because of its traction characteristics. BLDC Motors have greater traction characteristics like high starting torque, high efficiency, high rpm capabilities etc. But one of the main disadvantage is the increase in copper loss due to large winding currents during heavy duty applications. In this paper, selection and design of BLDC Motor for an Electric Vehicle is discussed. After the motor selection, the selected motor is developed in ANSYS Maxwell software for extracting the motor parameters needed for mathematical modelling. The mathematical modelling of the particular motor is done in Matlab SIMULINK along with speed control. In order to reduce the Copper loss, MTPA control strategy is implemented and results are analysed at different rated torque references.
