Abstract:

Monitoring the behavior of an RLC series circuit is very important. Under certain conditions, the quality factor of the circuit may indicate that over voltages may occur at the terminals of the circuit elements (inductor and capacitor). The phenomenon of over voltages can be desired or unwanted. It would be desirable if it is needed, when aiming the amplification of the supply voltage of the circuit. If the over voltage occurs accidentally it can additionally charge the capacitor. Using this practical application, students can visualize the conditions under which over voltages can occur, and can additionally check the obtained practical results. Also, this paper aims to support the students which have deficiencies in understanding of the details related to the phasor representation of electrical signals in the sinusoidal steady state. Practically, through the phasor representation of voltage and current signals, the students will be able to monitor the evolution of the phase difference between these two signals for different values of the inductance, the capacitance and the working frequency.
