Abstract:

This paper investigates the GPS antenna selection and packaging for exterior and interior applications to meet the GPS performance requirements. Issues affecting GPS performance in the automotive environment are discussed. The effect of antenna placement on satellite availability, satellite lock, dilution of precision, and position fix is compared and analyzed. The analysis is based on the recorded data taken on the JEF Consultant antenna range and road test in urban canyon areas. Due to the space limitation, only the road test data in the Lincoln town car was provided and analyzed.
