Chapter Abstract:
The developments in a story instance can occur due to events that are usually set by the designer and triggered by either the interactor or some other mechanism. The storyworld can be perceived from three views: topographical, operational, and presentational. This chapter looks at the characters, reviews the other components of the storyworld and shows how they can be affected. The storyworld needs a representation that gives it a concrete form. Computer‐controlled characters present one of the most challenging tasks in implementing the storyworld. The received perceptions are stored on the character’s memory. The reason for applying personality models is to give the character its own individual ‘flavour’. The other building blocks of the storyworld include the props that characters are using, the scenes where things are happening, and the events that propel the story forward. For the interactor, the visual and audio representation makes this place concrete and affirms the story being told.
