Abstract:

Phaleria macrocarpa has shown potential bioactivity as the antidote for a toxic heavy metal ion Cd (II) in rat serum based on biochemical parameters and histology analysis. The analysis of ureum, creatinine, total cholesterols, triglycerides, and LDL is subjected to the detrimental effect of Cd (II) ions in kidney organs of Rattus novergicus. The experiment used a crude extract of flesh powdered P macrocarpa, obtained of biosorbent 0.1 g with the optimum condition at pH 4, concentration 3000 mg/L, contact time 45 min, and adsorption capacity 88.2 mg/g. Experimental results showed that crude extract of Phaleria macrocarpa could readjust the levels of ureum 32.12%, cholesterols 28.30%, triglycerides 31.95%, and LDL levels 39.73% in the blood serum. The metal contents of Cd (II) and histopathology in kidney organs are also being affected even though some tubules were atrophic, cloudy swelling, fatty, and necrotic partially. This suggested exploring natural products as the potential antidote for heavy metals contamination and biomedical applications soon.
