Abstract:

Countries are putting cyber-security at the forefront of their national issues. With the increase in cyber capabilities and infrastructure systems becoming cyber-enabled, threats now have a physical impact from the cyber dimension. This paper proposes an analytical framework for national cyber-security profiling by taking national governmental and technical threat modeling simulations. Applying thematic analysis towards national cybersecurity strategy helps further develop understanding, in conjunction with threat modeling methodology simulation, to gain insight into critical infrastructure threat impact.

I. Introduction

Cyber technology has become heavily impactful, with huge developments being seen across different areas. Many improvements can be seen in areas such as critical infrastructure with technology such as the internet of things [1] and cyber-physical systems [2]. However, major vital issues and challenges establish themselves alongside the cyber-security discipline to defend against new cyber threats. One of the most direct human life influences is medical sectors where cyber-attacks disable equipment used to prevent and save lives most commonly through malware, specifically ransomware or indirectly be affected by attacks to other infrastructure like energy [3], with the importance of safeguarding the future development of the country. This research aims to further develop an understanding of national cyber-security by analysing governmental and critical infrastructure security. This would be represented within an analytical framework for a practical application of best understanding a nation’s cyber-security profile to provide a methodology of how best to understand the intricacies of national cyber-security and the knowledge acquired to be able to improve current systems.
