Abstract:

The Radio Frequency Synchronising Unit (RFSU) is a module that is used in Radio Frequency Equipment. Reliability Prediction deals with an evaluation of design earlier to the actual construction of a system. In literature, Reliability Prediction is done by Macrocosmic Approach [11] by failure data collected from the field to estimate the parameters of the Failure Distribution. The MIL-217 [1] is used to establish and maintain standard methods for estimating the Fundamental Reliability by using Item ToolKit Software. However, this Macroscopic approach may be inappropriate and misleading when designing a new product or product with Advanced Technology [8]Hence, the Reliability prediction of Electronic Components used in Industrial Safety Systems require High Accuracy and Compatibility with the Working Environment. This can be overcome by predicting Reliability using Microcosmic Approach [12,13] to calculate reliability using SHERLOCK software based on failures, Failure Mechanisms, and Material properties to capture stress values. The SHERLOCK Software is developed based on the Physics of Failure (PoF) concept [7,10]. In this paper, the Macrocosmic approach using Item ToolKit Software and Microcosmic approach using Sherlock Software are compared in terms of Reliability. It is concluded that Microcosmic approach is using better than Macrocosmic approach.
