Abstract:

This paper examines the capacity of millimeter waves systems which appear as an attractive alternative band for the next generation of mobile communications. The wide bandwidths available in this spectrum range along with the directional beamforming differentiate millimeter waves systems from previous mobile systems promising to dramatically increase the capacity of 5G systems. This study aims to quantify the capacity of millimeter waves channels described by a deterministic channel model based on ray tracing technique. It suggests a different way of displaying capacity estimations, which are presented as a heat map to allow easy and simple assessment. The impacts of beamwidth on directional transmissions and antenna height on the base station are also investigated.
