Abstract:
The article discusses the potential benefits of the new EASA regulation - Part M Light, which entered into force on March 24, 2020. This regulation is intended to simplify the administration and some processes in General Aviation maintenance. A positive attitude of the national aviation authorities is essential to achieve the positive benefits of the new regulation. The reactions of some national aviation authorities follows concern about the possible impact on safety, so the article a comparison of safety performance between categories GA and ultralight planes that have the minimum of maintenance requirements. A special attention is focused on the powerplant, which has a major safety impact.
