Abstract:

Transcranial focused ultrasound stimulation (TFUS) recently gained momentum as new neuromodulation technique used in humans for research as well as for medical treatments. Compared to other methods such as transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) or transcranial direct current stimulation, TFUS might induce more focal effects, reduce confounds related to concomitant peripheral stimulation, and prevent contamination of electrophysiological recordings by electromagnetic artefacts. We will present our observations about the time course of the effects of TFUS over the human primary somatosensory cortex (S1) using somatosensory-evoked potentials (SEPs) elicited by transcutaneous electrical stimulation of the median nerve (MN).
