Abstract:

The article presents method of higher harmonic components compensation in the output voltage spectrum of the starter-generator system of the aircraft operating in the electric power generation mode. A mathematical model of the starter-generator system is proposed. The equivalent circuit of the system with current feedback of the voltage source inverter (VSI) and with load voltage feedback is presented. The equations for calculating output voltage for the investigated system are derived. The characteristic of the amplitude of the higher harmonics of the output voltage versus VSI transfer factor characteristic is obtained. The output voltage spectrum and the cycloconverter current spectrum when the VSI is turned on in parallel are presented. The output voltage total harmonic distortion when the VSI is turned on in parallel is determined.

I. Introduction

In recent years preference has been given to combining the functions of a gas-turbine engine and an electric power generation system in one device when designing power supply systems (PSS) for aircraft. This device is called the “starter-generator” (SG). SG allows improving the weight-to-space ratio and increasing the reliability of PSS [1], [2]. This trend leads to the implementation of the concept of a fully electrified airplane (FEA) [3], [4]. The implementation of the FEA allows to significantly increase the power and functionality of the generators and devices for the converting electric energy parameters for the main and additional generation channels [5]–[7].
