Abstract:

Discrete event simulation is the process of designing a model of a real system and conducting experiments with that model, for purpose of either understanding the behavior of the system or evaluating strategies for the operation of a system; discrete event simulation is a tool suitable for different systems and improves the overall efficiency. Arena is a discrete event simulation and automation software developed by Systems Modelling and acquired by Rockwell Automation in 2000. This work consists experiment of surgery department of a large medical complex through simulated staff and resources models to determine best approach for the clinic to solve the main challenges of optimization of SPD staff and maintain consistently high results in patient satisfaction. The implementation of modified surgical unit process of a medical complex layout based on Arena simulation and modeling software findings. In proposed solution, altered staffing plan to optimize schedules and maximize the use of resources and improved the allocation process. This Model consist of large medical complex typically performs up to 50 surgeries per day; it requires thousands of medical instruments to be disinfected and sterilized before the following day surgeries. In our scenario, sterile processing department is currently working in three shifts. Medical complex will be expanding surgical services in purpose of initial feasibility study to examine how simulation of SPD operation can aid in improving department workflow and resource utilization. Expanded model used to test what-if scenarios that determine the potential to increase SPD capacity before implementing changes. In this work, the existing layouts studied and utilization of each station is analysed, the efficiency of production depends on how well the various machines, production facilities and employee's amenities are located in a SPD plant.
