Abstract:
Intensive care is needed while designing Piping, valves, storage tanks and other safety critical components for safer handling of liquids without containment of liquid loss. Pipe wreckages, Flow impediments, Valve failures are few communalfeatures that causes flow loss of water subsequently leads to shutdown of water supply at least for 12 hours. In Oman, the potable water distribution networksare keenly monitored by SCADA system that offers a comprehensivedata about the flow rate & flow pressure through the network. Here in this paper, an effort taken to designing and developing an Arduino based automated flow management device is discussed in brief. Need of water is almost zero during night time and peak at morning hours. So demand based flow management is insisted here to solve the issues existing in supply vs need. A theoretical flow is modelled here to extract optimal flow parameters for a safe water transportation through existing pipe network. A prototype water transporting network is fabricated as well to arrive to an agreement between the theoretical and experimental results. From the results, critical zones are identified for periodical monitoring. With the aid of OFT, a flow animation tool; the flow parameters are visualized at the critical zone. A microcontroller based flow management system is recommended to for water transporting networks to manage the flow rate on demand. The device is incorporated in the OFT tool for validating the safe operation all through the operating time. It is believed that the microcontroller based automated system would be a great support for DIAM, the water distributing authorities in Oman.
