Abstract:

A helix is an electromagnetic radiator that conducts wire wound in the form of a screw thread. There are two principle operations of helical; normal and axial mode. The radiation of axial mode is maximum in the direction of the helix axis and is nearly circularly polarized. This paper explains about the design of axial-mode helical antenna which operates at 2.4 GHz resonant frequency. It has circular polarization and is suitable to support wireless application which is surrounded by some obstructions. The proposed antenna is able to produce directional radiation pattern with 10.16 dB gain. This design will further be investigated so that it can be used in underwater environment.
