Abstract:

Liquid level in a storage tank is measured using different types of primary and secondary sensing elements. One of the most popular sensing technique is the float type measurement. After sensing the liquid level, different techniques are used as secondary elements or transducers. In this paper, first a level measurement technique is designed where float and Hall sensor are used as primary and secondary sensing elements respectively. But the output voltage of the Hall sensor is affected by the temperature as magnetic field changes with the temperature. This temperature effect creates error in the measurement of the liquid level. A temperature compensation technique is also proposed and designed here to compensate the effect of temperature of the working environment on the Hall sensor. To achieve the temperature compensated output, Artificial Neural Network (ANN) is used. Different algorithms are used to achieve the best compensated value. Results are shown both for the uncompensated and compensated output voltages of the Hall sensor at different working temperature with different levels of liquid.
