Abstract:
Indoor localization systems have become a hot topic of research in the last decade, driven by emerging location-based services as well as missing of a widely adopted localization technology for indoor environments. The large amount of research papers in literature on localization mainly focus on theory, system design or evaluation in non-industrial environments such as offices or healthcare spaces. This paper focuses on a detailed evaluation of a commercial ultra wideband (UWB) localization system in a harsh industrial environment. The experimental field tests have been carried out in a real working industrial galvanic process to come up with a concrete understanding about the performance of this accurate localization technology and thus its benefits/drawbacks for industrial applications.
