Abstract:

This paper discusses applicability of ultra-wideband (UWB) radar systems to corrosion state estimation of reinforced concrete structures. A corroded reinforcing bar in concrete is modeled by a metal cylinder covered with inhomogeneous lossy dielectric and radar responses from it is analytically derived using the multilayer division method. Numerical simulation results suggest that corrosion rate can be estimated by checking distortion of UWB radar signatures.
