Abstract:
This study estimates the unavailability's of floating offshore wind turbines, the standard weather limitations are the significant wave height and wind speed respectively, for boat access to the boat landing and man access to the top of the mast. Although the standard weather limitation for access to the boat landing is the significant wave height, a simplified method has been developed to challenge it. Indeed, the physical limitation for a boat is its acceleration. The revised weather limitations for access to boat landing are the significant wave heights and wave spectral peak periods for a typical sample of operation & maintenance vessels. Moreover, a studied method accounts for the masking effect created by the presence of the turbine floater, since it is located between the predominant wave direction and the O&M vessel, provided that the boat landing is suitably located. That helps significantly the boat access for light corrective maintenance. That study takes the example of FLOATGEN prototype.
