Abstract:

Bali is an island in Indonesia which known with its tourism attractiveness. Around five million tourists come to this island every year, making Bali as one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world. Meanwhile, Indonesia is still a developing country with a low gross domestic product (GDP) per capita at about USD4000, which means that many Indonesia people live with low income. Thus, the crime rate in Indonesia is still high, including in Bali. Besides crime, natural disasters are threatening Bali, since it is located in “ring of fire” which prone to an earthquake or even tsunami. These conditions should be anticipated to give protection to tourists and local citizens as well. This paper proposes a personal panic button so they can press it when they face an emergency from crime, natural disaster, or any other cause. This physical panic button is designed with the LoRa connectivity which has benefits of low power consumption and wide area coverage. The panic button system is proposed for the Bali Smart Island project initiated by Bali province government in 2018.
