Abstract:
The aim of this paper and its consequent result is to achieve a smart toll collection system for highway scenarios in India. The objective of this paper is to demonstrate a possible solution to tackle the problems encountered in manual toll collections system like time spent at the toll plaza, cashless transactions, overcollection of toll charges, corruption on toll plaza, etc. Moreover, the proposed system would also help the authorities to solve the cases of vehicle theft very efficiently. In the proposed solution, the toll would be equipped with Optical Character Recognition (OCR) and RFID sensing to collect information on passing vehicles and make hassle-free digital transactions based on the unique identification. In order to speed up the transaction time spent in data, a lookup table, a priority table based on GPS sectoring of vehicles in a radius of 200 M will be used. A key feature of the proposed system is that it uses central account for toll collection across the country so that the government will have the knowledge of toll charges collected at toll center, and it helps in reducing the overcollection of toll charges.
