Abstract:

The objective of this work is to investigate the possible extraction of power from wind energy by using a new conceptual vortex bladeless wind generator. This proposed wind generator can be used as reliable power sources in Nano grid. However, the vortex wind generator is designed by a hollow, conical shaped bluff body to be placed vertically on the ground. When the air passes over this bluff body, the body experiences vortex induced vibration due to the vortex shedding fluid phenomenon. Such vibration energy of the body can be converted to electrical energy. In this work, we first select all design parameters based on the Von Karman effect analysis by Ansys Fluent. After that, a mathematical model is constructed to achieve maximum lift force generated by the designed body. As the final step, a complete model is formulated and tested under different operating conditions in order to quantify the extracted vibration energy for further conversion.
