Abstract:
NEOM is one of the Saudi Arabia‘s vision projects to build an intelligent environment where the Internet of Things (IoT) is one of the key technologies. This technology refers to the interconnection among various devices using the Internet to track, analyze, and process the data during running time. The technology is developing rapidly with extensive attention given to enhancing its security level. Indeed, due to their dependency on a centralized architecture, IoT objects can become vulnerable points and targets for several attacks. Moreover, using the traditional security mechanisms with static measures may be inappropriate to the dynamic nature of the IoT environment. In this study, we will investigate the problem of IoT security issues and what the possibility of employing promising technologies such a BlockChain (BC) to enhance the security aspect of IoT environment, especially on the application layer. The BC is an infrastructure that broadcasts the resources to all participants with consensus verification. This trending technology overrides the drawbacks of central authority and provides a distributed architecture. For these reasons, multiple studies began to utilize the promising BlockChain technology but research in this area is at preliminary stages.
