Abstract:

Single-phase boost inverters have found numerous applications in UPS and AC motor drives. Most recently boost inverters have been used for harvesting power from renewable energy sources such as in wind turbines and fuel cells. The proposed inverter uses two boost converters with voltage mode control to produce a sinusoidal voltage at the output. The controllers are designed in the stationary dq reference frame and make use of conventional PI controllers for tracking the reference. The proposed method eliminates the use of any current measurement. The controller function is verified using simulation results in the PLECS platform. The results obtained for a step change in input, a step change in load, a step change in set point, and non-linear loading conditions demonstrate the effectiveness of the controller in maintaining desired output voltage level within the IEEE guidelines for harmonic distortion.
