Abstract:

Since Gong Wong is the tune keeper of Thai music, it is the most essential instrument in various Thai orchestra band. However, it's popularity has been significantly decreased throughout the time. One of the main reasons might be its monotonous of the musical notes that restricts the variety of song writing. The process of Gong Wong sound synthesis [1] can yield the results in both original and other musical notes sound synthesis. Therefore, this piece of work can be the leverage in Thai song composing. The method presented in this paper will be the analysis of Gong Wong fundamental sound frequency through the power spectral frequency and its decay rates measured through reverberation times of the Gong Wong based on an assumption that the Gong Wong sound is a composition of exponential decay sinusoids. The frequencies and decay rates found from the analysis will be used in designing the infinite impulse response filter with help from the method of Z-transform. The digital filter coefficients will be stored as a synthesized sound library.
