Abstract:

This paper presents Quadratic Adaptive Bacterial Foraging Algorithm (QABFA) for determining the optimal location and size of Static Var Compensator (SVC) devices in power systems. The aim of SVC devices in Egyptian interconnected electrical power system is to increase the system loadability within the permissible voltage levels and to minimize the power losses and generating costs simultaneously. The proposed algorithm is applied to500 KV interconnected electrical power system network. The numerical results achievedin MATLAB showed that the QABFA technique succeeded at determining the optimal location and size of SVC with minimum power losses and minimum generating costs, as well as improvement in the system voltage profile.
