Automated visual quality inspection and sorting

In India biscuit manufacturing plant largely comprises of various machinery for the entire value chain from dough mixing up to baking. However the inspection and rejection continues to be largely manual and based on human vigilance. This presents critical challenges in quality assurance as well as personal health and safety. In this paper, we present how the process of quality inspection and sorting of cookies can be done in an automated way. This would help in reducing the errors induced due to human intervention and will also ensure improvement in production rate. We have developed a system which implements automated quality inspection using concepts of image processing on a single stream of cookies.
