Chapter Abstract:

This chapter considers the concepts of the cost of quality, quality culture, and the code of ethics for software engineers. The issues related to quality will be applied to the context of software development. The chapter presents examples where poor quality culture and the lack of a code of ethics have led to disastrous situations involving poor quality software and irreversible damage to people and the environment. One of the major factors that explains the resistance to implementing quality assurance is the perception of its high cost. Quality culture is the culture that guides the behaviors, activities, priorities, and decisions of an individual as well as of an organization. The objective of management is to instill a culture that will promote the development of high quality software products and offer them at competitive prices in order to produce income and dividends within an organization where employees are engaged and happy.
