Abstract:

Test method and simulation method are applied to determine an optimum lightning protection design of aircraft radome. Proposed the lightning channel coefficient K and corresponding method to analyze the protection performance of diverter strips, the lightning channel coefficient K is based on the simulation of space electric field distribution and surface potential distribution of radome in lightning environment. The effectiveness of this method is verified by lightning tests. Meanwhile, Antenna gains inside the radome of various diverter configurations (without diverter strips, with solid metal strips and with segmented strips) are calculated and tested to verify the less influence of segmented strips to the antenna.
