QoS control in OTT video distribution system

Over the top (OTT) video distribution is gaining momentum as many people have high speed internet access and an increased need for video and multimedia content absorption. On the other hand, the internet providers are also interested in monetizing the excess internet capacity that they provide to the end-users in a more efficient way. Digital television content can be very brittle in quality, depending on many factors related to the video distribution system and end-user's equipment. This paper provides a hands-on experience in practical implementation of a Quality of Service (QoS) management in a real OTT video distribution system involving affordable Android set-top-boxes and a custom made application.
