Abstract:

Transformer's life mainly depends on the quality of oil volume it contains. Regular transformer oil filtration assures long and consistent results from the transformer. High vacuum transformer oil filtration machine purifies the transformer oil. This paper aims to compare Raschig rings of different shapes and materials. Raschig rings are kept in the degassing and dehydration chamber of high vacuum transformer oil filtration machine where the gas and moisture content from the transformer oil are removed using vacuum pumping system. Usually hollow cylindrical shaped Raschig rings are used in high vacuum transformer oil filtration machine. If spherical shaped Raschig rings are used instead of hollow cylindrical Raschig rings, the whole volume surface area of the Raschig rings will be utilized for degasification. The effective surface area for the oil to get spread will increase. As a result the surface tension of the oil, spread on Raschig rings, will get reduced and evaporation of gases from the oil in the degassing chamber will be faster, thus reducing the cycle time of the oil filtration process. Raschig rings of different shapes and different materials are compared on the basis of their cost of material and shape. The comparison shows why spherical shaped Raschig rings are better to use in high vacuum transformer oil filtration machine.
