Abstract:

In this paper, an equivalent circuit of a double-circuit transmission-line tower for lightning overvoltage calculations using the Electro-Magnetic Transients Program (EMTP) and a procedure to determine its constants are proposed. Waveforms of three-phase arcing-horn voltages of a 77-m high transmission-line tower struck by lightning, calculated by Noda using the finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) method for solving Maxwell's equations, are reproduced reasonably accurately with the proposed equivalent circuit.
