Abstract:

In our work a Compact Sized Microstrip Patch Antenna has been designed using Sierpinski Triangle fractal geometry. Genetic algorithm is applied for optimization of the patch dimensions. Triangular slots have been incorporated in the ground plane which have been increased in subsequent iteration. A triangular shaped patch is placed on top of Roger 4350 substrate which has an electrical permittivity of 3.48 and a loss tangent of 0.004. The designed structure resonates exactly at 3.5 GHz with a `-10 dB bandwidth' of almost 700 MHz. The patch is applicable for 3.5 GHz WiMAX band with a maximum gain of 3.34 dBi at the resonant frequency.
