Abstract:

This paper describes our ongoing work developing ESCALATION (Easy Used and Customizable General Reporting Application). ESCALATION report is an independent web based reporting systems that generally developed to realize the need of enterprise and organization regarding information accessibility and availability. The aim of this study is to explore the suitable data access method for reporting system by comparing two alternatives, processing queries by direct access to data source server or by implementing temporary data stores in application database server. This study is conducted through implementing the two technologies of data access, series of tests, review their capabilities and analysis. The analysis shows that access to temporary data stores resulting less cost compared to the effort of direct access to data source server.
