Abstract:
Electrical Safety is the most important factor to be considered while circuit design for any EV modules. EVs contain very high power battery of around 200Ah that can be very devastating and extremely hazardous in case of any abnormalities. Hence Safety protection in the electrical circuits is the very critical and requires 100% accuracy. Electric vehicles contain many complicated circuitries. These circuits carry very high current & are operated at high DC Voltages. Thus in case of short circuit, very high current flows in the line that can cause severe damage to the vehicle and also can be fatal. Hence each circuit is necessarily provided with protective elements like relays and fuses. Thus these fuses, which appear to be very small elements of the circuit, can become life saver in case of short circuits and can prevent huge damages. Hence, Proper selection of the fuses is very important and critical for an electric circuit. Fuse cannot be selected only based on maximum rated current. Many other factors need to be considered. Also due to the diversity of applications and variety of the fuses required in EVs, there is no single, distinctive approach to the design and deployment of fuses to the circuits available. This had led to a detailed study and derivation of I2t Methodology for appropriate selection of the fuses in a particular circuit. The objective of this study is to verify the performance of the fuse with respect to time in different real life conditions.
