Abstract:

Electricity can be produced in vehicles from the exhaust gases. In a gasoline powered engine about 70 percentage of the fuel's energy is dissipated as waste heat through exhaust gases. Thermoelectric generators (TEGs) can directly convert this heat energy to electrical energy and can be employed in the automobile industry to recover this waste heat energy. We are using a high efficiency HZ-20 module. This TEG has 71 thermocouples arranged electrically in series and thermally in parallel. The thermocouples are made by using Bismuth Telluride based semiconductors, which gives high efficiency at most heat temperatures and offers more strength in tough applications.
