Abstract:

The next generation car will be equipped with a large number of advanced electronic equipment (subsystem) to enhance safety, driving comfort, improve economy and decrease environmental ill effects. Example of such one subsystem is Autonomous Intelligent Cruise control(AICC). Those subsystems will generate a lot of data and so the amount of information potentially available to the driver is very large and sometimes contain even conflicting messages, result to the risk overloading the driver's perceptual and reactive capabilities. So, it is necessary that the systematic handling of the Information to the driver from different subsystems embedded in the car, so that the driver gets only the relevant information at the right time. In this Paper, an approach to the design of a Driver assistance system is described, which is based on a methodology for the design of an Intelligent Driver Information Unit (DIU). Such system should be able to provide the driver with accurate, reliable, necessary and sufficient and timely support on the basis of unreliable and limited input information. This system runs on the basic of CAN communication protocol which supports CSMA/AMP so that the system is effective and only transfers the relevant data to the DIU and so some extent it meets the real time needs.
