Abstract:

This paper focuses on ferroresonance phenomenon in distribution networks in the presence of Distributed Generation (DG) after islanding. The effect of three different types of DGs (i.e., induction machine based DG, synchronous machine based DG and inverter based DGs) are analyzed and studied. The studies are performed based on the simulations using the PSCAD/EMTDC software. This study has shown that both induction and synchronous based DGs are susceptible to ferroresonance phenomenon occurrence. Inverter based DGs have best operation encounter with ferroresonance.
