Abstract:

A configurable multi-band GNSS RF receiver with wide bandwidth in a heterodyne radio topology is implemented for Compass/GPS/Galileo applications in a 0.35μm SiGe BiC-MOS process. The receiver adopts a Σ - Δ fractional-N PLL to generate different local oscillator (LO) signals and down-converts GNSS signals in L1/B1/B2/B3/L1C/E1/E1b, c bands to an identical intermediate frequency (IF) of 46MHz. By the combination of adjustable gain from a variable gain LNA, a 46.3MHz center frequency 25.3MHz bandwidth Gm-C filter and the PGA stages, the receiver achieves a voltage gain of 108dB with 65dB dynamic range. The receiver exhibits a noise figure of less than 3.5dB for all working bands and draws 30mA current from a 3.0V supply while occupying a 3.5×3.8mm2 die area including the ESD protection pads.
