Summary
This paper describes a new reference frame selection method for use in the joint multiview video coding (JMVC) encoding standard, aimed at selectively disabling inter-view correlations in order to save on computation time at the motion estimation stage. Phase correlation is exploited to estimate the dependencies between the inter-view reference and the current frame. For cases where the current frame exhibits low phase correlation with given reference frames, motion estimation is restricted to only a subset of the references.
